It’s Not the Puppy

Puppy 1

It’s Not the Puppy by author J. Patrick, author Leigh Lewis and illustrator Maddie Frost

Age Range: 2 – 5 years

Publisher: Amicus Ink

Publication Date: March 12, 2019

In this rhyming board book, questions are presented that seem to have answers that identify a puppy as the guilty party but surprisingly other animals and people are also capable of doing actions that puppies do. Only one deed is done by the puppy. Readers can have fun naming the culprits or adults can help young children name the guilty i.e. rabbit, raccoon, baby etc. The collage illustrations are bold and adorable.

Goodnight Lagoon

Goodnight lagoon 2

Goodnight Lagoon by author Lisa Ann Scott and illustrator Paco Sordo

Age Range: 4 – 8 years

Publisher: little bee books

Publication Date: June 4, 2019

A mermaid says goodnight to the living and nonliving elements in her habitat in this rhyming picture book. She acknowledges things above and in the lagoon. Scenes that depict above and below water simultaneously are attractive. A glossary about illustrations expands readers knowledge. My Book Eyes was delighted to learn about a narwhal.

In this picture book, Stanley and his buddy Charlie share train maintenance duties prior to picking up their friends. They take a day trip. Guess where they are going from the items they bring with them. My Book Eyes adored the turn taking element inserted in this story. Vivid colors allow distinct views of items in illustrations.
